· Boku, also with Just Park and Parcmi, launch direct carrier billing (DCB) as a simpler payment option for all O2 customers
· This will initially be accessible across car parks in London and Hereford ahead of a wider national rollout
London, 14 July 2026 - Boku, the local payments partner for global commerce, is supporting a new direct carrier billing launch with JustPark, Virgin Media O2 and Parcmi, bringing mobile account-based payments into parking.
This solution will allow all O2 customers to pay for parking through direct carrier billing at an initial group of car parks in London and Hereford. The launch is being delivered through a collaboration between Parcmi, JustPark, Virgin Media O2 and Boku.
Direct carrier billing has traditionally been concentrated in digital entertainment, including gaming, music and streaming services. This new launch takes the payment method into a practical, everyday use case where reducing steps in the payment journey can improve convenience for consumers, and conversion for merchants.
For carriers, the model also creates an opportunity to expand the use of direct carrier billing beyond its established base and introduce the service to new users.
Boku provides the payment infrastructure that enables direct carrier billing to be used in new merchant categories, helping partners make familiar local payment methods available in more places.
Stuart Neal, CEO at Boku, said: “Direct carrier billing has already proven its value in the entertainment sector, but its potential is much bigger than that. Parking is a strong example of where a preferred mobile payment method can remove unnecessary friction from an everyday transaction. This partnership shows how carrier billing can move into new categories, create new opportunities for carriers, and give consumers a simpler way to pay.”
Matt Hemingway, Head of Network-As-A-Service at Virgin Media O2, said: “We’re always looking at ways to make mobile services more useful for our customers in their day-to-day lives. Through this collaboration, we become the first mobile network operator in the UK to offer our customers a simple and convenient way to pay for parking through their mobile account, while also helping us explore new opportunities for direct carrier billing beyond traditional digital services.”
Jonathan Hampson, Chief Commercial Officer at JustPark, said: “Parking payments should be quick, simple and intuitive. By teaming up with Boku, VMO2 and Parcmi, JustPark has developed another way to reduce friction for drivers and give customers a convenient way to pay.”
Michael H. BigBee, Director at Parcmi, said: “Direct carrier billing is transforming parking payments by allowing drivers to charge parking fees to their mobile phone accounts. This removes the need for cash or cards, speeding up transactions. It improves convenience and enhances seamless, contactless parking experiences.”
